Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an ancient art of harmonising the life energy in the body. It involves touching certain pressure points on the body to eliminate blockages. These blockages if not addressed may result in disease. One of the benefits is deep relaxation.
Background
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is an ancient art of harmonizing the life energy in the body. Jin Shin Jyutsu® was passed down from generation to generation by word of mouth until it was revived in the early 1900’s by Master Jiro Murai in Japan. Jiro Murai had a life threatening illness and after utilising Jin Shin Jyutsu® he managed to cure himself. He then devoted the rest of his life to the research and development of Jin Shin Jyutsu®. He gathered insight from a range of experiences and resources, including the Kojiki (Japanese Record of Ancient Things). The resulting knowledge was then given to Mary Burmeister, who brought it to the United States in the 1950’s. Mary Burmeister began to teach the art to others in the early 1960’s and today there are thousands of students throughout the United States and around the world.
What is Jin Shin Jyutsu®?
Jin Shin Jyutsu® is a form of body work. It involves placing fingers on certain energy points (safety energy locks) simultaneously to release blockages in the energy pathways. When one or more of the paths become blocked, the resulting stagnation can disrupt the local area and eventually disharmonise the complete path of energy flow. This can then lead to disease. Holding these energy locks in combination can bring balance to mind, body and spirit.
The Five attitudes in Jin Shin Jyutsu® which block optimal health:
- Worry
- Fear
- Anger/irritability/resentment
- Sadness/Greif
- Pretense and trying too hard
Each attitude relates to an organ in the body. When there is an issue with one of the above attitudes it may affect the corresponding organ.
What to expect in a treatment?
In a typical Jin Shin Jyutsu® treatment which lasts about one hour, the receiver remains clothed and lies face up on a massage table. The practitioner listens to the energy pulses in the wrists and employs a harmonizing sequence (flow) appropriate for unblocking particular pathways and restoring harmony. A flow is a series of hand placement combinations that stimulates circulation of energy along a given pathway. After the completion of the treatment the client will be given certain exercises for self help that they can complete at home during the week. The experience of Jin Shin Jyutsu® is unique to each person for each session. However, the most common effect is that of deep relaxation. Who wouldn’t welcome any opportunity to let go of stress, which so often interferes with optimal health?
How many sessions are required?
For best results at least 6 sessions are required over 6 consecutive weeks.
For acute conditions it is best to have several sessions per week and then a maintenance session of once per week until symptoms have resolved. After these 6 weeks there will be a reassessment as to whether it is necessary to continue treatment. However, the number of sessions will be individual to the person depending on the issue presenting and the severity of the condition.
